Chandigarh (Dharni): While the announcement of forming the government of Shiv Sena-Congress and NCP was to be held in Maharashtra on Saturday, but overnight politics turned 360 degrees and the government of Bharatiya Janata Party and Nationalist Congress became the state. On Saturday morning, Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari administered oath to Devendra Fadnavis as Chief Minister and senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar as Deputy Chief Minister. It may be an example of unique politics to say, but it has happened many times before in Indian politics.
Chaudhary Devi Lal and the then Governor were at the Raj Bhavan
A similar incident happened in Haryana in 1982, when suddenly the entire politics of the state had changed and the Governor administered the oath of office to the Congress leader Chaudhary Bhajan Lal. What happened next was even more shocking. In fact, the then Haryana Governor GD Taapsee was slapped by veteran leader Chaudhary Devi Lal in a meeting held at Raj Bhavan itself. This was the biggest and surprising event in the history of Indian politics.
The whole case
In the 1982 Haryana Assembly elections, no party could get a majority. In the 90-seat assembly, Congress won 35 seats, Lok Dal 31 and Bharatiya Janata Party 6 seats. At the same time, both the Congress and the Lok Dal had claimed to form the government. Meanwhile, suddenly the then Governor GD Tapse administered the oath to Congress leader Chaudhary Bhajan Lal. When Lokdal leader Chaudhary Devi Lal came to know about this, he along with all his MLAs reached Raj Bhavan. Along with this, he also organized a parade of all his MLAs and claimed that he had majority and he should be sworn in as CM.
According to the information received, Chaudhary Devi Lal, along with holding a parade of his MLAs, claimed that the government should be formed due to the majority they have. At the same time, the governor did not listen to one of them and refused to do so. Along with Devi Lal, the big leaders of the Lok Dal present there were raising the same slogan that the Bhajan Lal cabinet should be sacked and form the local government. These slogans continued for a long time.
Governor slapped during debate
Chaudhary Devi Lal continued to demand the immediate dismissal of Bhajan Lal and his cabinet at Raj Bhavan and to form a Lok Dal government. During this time there was a very heated debate between Chaudhary Devi Lal and Governor GD Tapse. During this, an angry Devi Lal caught the chin of tapas and started narrating it. Angered by this, the governor jolted his hand and angry Chaudhary Devi Lal gave a loud slap to his cheek. This slap was heard all over the country along with Delhi, the capital of the country, with politicians also criticizing it.
