Pak writes to UN, cries for Jammu and Kashmir reorganization

Islamabad: Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has written a letter to the UN Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council, crying for the reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir. In this, Qureshi has demanded the reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir be rejected. The Pakistani Foreign Office issued a statement saying that the letter was written by the Foreign Minister on 31 October as part of an effort to raise the Kashmir issue.

Among other things, it reiterates Pakistan’s rejection of the reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir, and calls for strengthening the ‘UN Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan’ (UNMOGIP). However, India maintains that UNMOGIP, established in January 1949, has lost its utility and has become irrelevant after the establishment of the Simla Agreement and the Line of Control (LoC).
