Fazilka (Nagpal, Liladhar): Locusts have attacked in Rupnagar and Barken villages of Fazilka subdivision. Both villages are located near the Indo-Pak international border. This locust has entered the Indian border from Pakistan and has sat on the trees of rosewood and kikkar.
Siddharth Rinwa of village Barec told that the locust team has started spoiling the crops of mustard and taramira in the villages. Due to this there is an atmosphere of fear among the farmers. Hardeep Dhaka, the young sarpanch of the border village Khanpur, told that the grasshopper team has started dying and running after spray by the farmers and officials of the agriculture department. There is an atmosphere of fear among the farmers of village Siwana, Muradwala, Chananwala, Khanpur and Nejke due to the locust attack.
Department teams overcome locusts
The locust party’s attack was reported on February 2 at around 8 pm. Director Agriculture Department, Sutantrat Kumar Ari said that 4 teams were formed for this. These teams reached the village Rupnagar and Barnec on 3 February morning. Director said that this operation was carried out with 4 boom sprayers, 3 fire brigade vehicles and spray pumps of about 15 farmers. The locust party has been controlled in this campaign. Ari has instructed the respective teams to continuously monitor the villages along the border of Pakistan and report it.
