Amid nationwide lockdown, announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar donated Rs 25 crore to fight the coronavirus pandemic. Ever since the number of coronavirus cases is increasing in India, many Bollywood personalities have been constantly appealing to fans to follow the directions issued by the government.
On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the CARES fund requesting for donations to fight the coronavirus. Akshay Kumar, who has been vocal about the pandemic, is one of the first actors to pitch in and donate a huge amount of Rs 25 crore to the PM-CARES fund.
Taking to Twitter, he wrote: This is that time when all that matters is the lives of our people. And we need to do anything and everything it takes. I pledge to contribute Rs 25 crores from my savings to Narendra Modi Ji’s PM-CARES Fund. Let’s save lives, Jaan hai toh jahaan hai. 🙏🏻”
Around 1000 people in India have contracted the novel coronavirus, while around 20 people have lost their lives. On the other hand, the word meter has picked a pace in terms of the number of confirmed cases. Over 617,288 cases have been reported while 137,336 people have been recovered.
