Finance Minister Nirmana Sitharaman on Thursday announced a relief package of Rs 1.70 lakh crore to help the poor of the country overcome the financial difficulties arising out of the Kovid-19 outbreak. Sitharaman said that the economic relief package would mainly focus on migrant laborers and daily laborers. Sitharaman said, ‘A package is ready for the poor, who need immediate help like migrant workers and urban and rural poor. no one goes hungry. The package is priced at Rs 1.7 lakh crore. ‘ The package includes food security and direct cash transfer benefits which will provide considerable relief to poor families during lockdown.
5 crore laborers will be benefited: About 5 crore rural laborers working under MGNREGA will benefit from this assistance amount. Their daily wages have been increased from Rs 182 to Rs 202. An additional Rs 2,000 will be earned per laborer.
