New Delhi: Shiv Sena and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam did not attend the meeting of opposition parties led by Congress President Sonia Gandhi to discuss the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Civil Register (NRC) and the political situation in the country. The Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party are partners with Sivasena in the Mahavikas Aghadi coalition government in Sattarudh in Maharashtra. The Congress has an alliance with the DMK in Tamil Nadu.
Apart from this, members of Aam Aadmi Party, Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party were not present in the meeting. The Bahujan Samaj Party supported the Congress in forming the government in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Apart from Congress, 19 political parties of opposition were present in the meeting.
These include Nationalist Congress Party, Communist Party of Marxist, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Communist Party of India, Democratic Janata Dal, Indian Union Muslim League, Revolutionary Socialist Party, Kerala Congress, All India Democratic Front, National Conference, People’s Democratic Party, Janata Dal Secular, National Lok Dal, Hindustani Awami Front, National Low Representatives of A Samata Party, Swabhiman Paksha, Forward Bloc and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Kachi were present.
