New Delhi: All the starred questions were raised in the Rajya Sabha during the Question Hour three days in the last two weeks. Today ie on Monday and on the last working day Friday, for two consecutive days, all the questions were asked in the Question Hour and the concerned Ministers gave oral answers to them. On Monday, due to all the questions being asked five minutes before the completion of the hour for the Question Hour in the Upper House, the House meeting for lunch was adjourned at 1255 hours instead of one o’clock.
Describing it as rare, an official of the Rajya Sabha Secretariat said that out of the 15 questions listed for the Question Hour, seven questions could not be asked due to absence of relevant members in the House. Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu, expressing concern over the absence of members in the House, requested the members to remain present in the House till the question listed with their names is asked. He said that at least the member in whose name the starred question is listed, they must be present in the house.
It is noteworthy that the members who were not present when they were asked to ask questions during the Question Hour included Dharmapuri Srinivas of TRS, Raviprakash Verma of SP, Ronald SP Lau and P Bhattacharya of Congress, Nadeemul Haque of Trinamool Congress, Sasikala Pushpa Ramaswamy of AIADMK And CPI’s Binoy Vishwam. However, on four of the questions to which the members asked were absent, the Chairman allowed the other members to ask supplementary questions.
