Pathanamthitta: At least 20 people have been admitted to the special wards of different government hospitals in Pathanamthitta and Kollam after six people confirmed a fatal corona virus infection in Kerala. The state’s health department has opened 24-hour call centers that will handle emergency cases. Health Minister KK Shailaja said the infection was confirmed on Sunday by five people from the same family, including three people who had returned from Italy.
He said that for the first time such a number of people were detected in the state. He said that the Health Department is also tracing 2000 people who have come in contact with infected people in the past. Meanwhile 15 people including two women have been admitted to various hospitals. Of these, nine people have been admitted to the public hospital and two others to Adoor taluk.
In view of the havoc of Corona, marriages and all other public events in this district have been postponed till further orders.
District Magistrate PB Noah has banned all public functions in the district till further orders. He has also requested religious leaders to postpone mass programs.
