Tripoli: On Monday, at least 7 civilians were killed and 30 were injured in an airstrike on a biscuit factory in Libya’s southern Tripoli. Most of the dead are foreign workers. Libyan Health Ministry spokesman Amin al-Hachemi said two Libyans and civilians from Bangladesh, Egypt and Niger were killed in an attack on the factory in Wadi Rabi.
The suburb has been the focus of a campaign launched in April by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar’s forces to gain control of the capital from loyalist fighters of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA). Libya has been in turmoil since the death of dictator Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
